After weeks of looking into probable and suspected swine flu cases in Rockland County, health officials confirmed Wednesday that two unrelated children contracted the virus.
Due to privacy issues, Rockland County Health Commissioner Dr. Joan Facelle did not release where the patients are from. However, Facelle said the children are not in the public school system, and no significant illnesses were reported in their communities.
Local parents, however, remain worried about the confirmed cases.
"It's definitely a concern, and we do think about it a lot," says Scott McKenzie, of Highland Falls.
Health officials say the two young patients have mild symptoms of the H1N1 influenza and are expected to fully recover.
According to the Rockland County Health Department, going forward, only probable or confirmed cases of swine flu will be reported to the public. Information about suspected cases of the illness will not be disclosed.
