4 people hurt in Ramapo ambulance crash
Four people were taken to the hospital with serious injuries after a Spring Hill Community ambulance collided with a car in Ramapo Thursday morning.
Officials say the ambulance was called to an incident in Spring Valley at around 10:15. The ambulance got cut off by a car on its way to the call, rear-ended that vehicle, then pushed the car 30 or 40 feet down the road before coming to a stop.
The two members of the ambulance crew were taken to Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern, but are said to be OK. The 19-year-old driver of the car sustained severe injuries and was airlifted to Westchester Medical Center after being extricated from the vehicle. His 57-year-old father was also hurt and taken to Good Samaritan Hospital, but later transferred to Westchester Medical Center.
A family friend tells News 12 Westchester the driver of the car was an off-duty firefighter, and that he is undergoing surgery.
Following the crash, Route 45 was shut down as Ramapo police investigated the crash.
