Forty-three recruits were sworn-in Friday as Westchester County corrections officers.

The recruits spent 10 weeks training and are now ready to serve. The diverse group of men and women took the oath of office during a ceremony at the County Center in White Plains.

"These past 10 weeks have been amazing," says corrections officer Mark Mendelson. "Lots of hard work. And it's an amazing feeling. This has been a dream come true."

The newly sworn-in officers say the training was tough, but the instructors kept them on point so they could reach their goal.

Corrections officer Lafonda Spaulding reached a lifelong goal herself. After 30 years with the department, she was promoted to assistant warden.

Six corrections officers in all were promoted and recognized at the ceremony. 

A new class of recruits will start training in March 2019.
