Five New York City women were taken to a hospital after their Jeep Grand Cherokee and a tractor-trailer collided Wednesday afternoon in Hillburn.
Police said the driver of the truck, Steve Spaulding, was headed south on Route 17 when the Jeep drove into his path near Route 59. "The lady in the Jeep made a stop and then all of a sudden took off again right in front of me and I did everything I could to stop," said Spaulding.
Skid marks from the tractor-trailer were left behind. The driver's side of the Jeep was bloodied. Firefighters pried open the vehicle in order to rescue the women. They were taken to Good Samaritan Hospital with serious, but non-life threatening injuries.
Investigators are reconstructing the scene to determine the exact cause of the crash. No tickets have been issued at this time.
