MOUNT VERNON - African-American minister Bishop Nathan Edwars has come to the defense of County Executive Rob Astorino amid racism accusations in connection with affordable housing and HUD.

Edwars, who is also the president of the United Black Clergy, was one of a number of African-American church leaders to endorse Astorino's re-election bid.

Bishop Edwars says he does not believe that Astorino is racist, and says that the county executive is a good and moral man.

HUD wants Astorino to change local zoning that the agency has branded as discriminatory.
