Airmont mom accused of burning son in oven
An Airmont mother was arrested Friday and accused of burning her 7-year-old son in an oven over the summer.
Police say 26-year-old Tiffany Fraser put her son in the oven as a form of punishment for losing a cell phone. The alleged incident happened inside their home at 1 Tallman Place in July, but didn?t come to the attention of police until the fall. Authorities say that?s when the child went missing.
When police found him, ?The officer spoke with the child and he relayed to them this story that his mother had threatened to place him in the oven and burn him and did in fact do that,? Ramapo Police Lt. Brad Weidel says.
After an investigation, the alleged victim and his twin brother were taken to child protective services Friday. Fraser was charged with assault in the second degree.
Police also arrested the owner of the day care center where the boy attended. According to police, 37-year-old Joelle Lherisson didn?t report that the boy showed up at the center with burns. Lherisson was charged with failure to report the incident. Her day care was closed by the state.
Fraser was released on her own recognizance and is expected back in court later this month. Lherisson is due back in court in February.
