Allegations of voters fraud swirl in Ramapo
Allegations of voter fraud are swirling in Ramapo, where the outcome of a controversial vote is still on hold.
A recent referendum allowed voters to decide whether to increase the town board to six members, instead of four. It also asked voters if they wanted to split the town into six geographical wards, with residents from each ward electing their own council members.
On primary night, there were detailed allegations of voter fraud and claims the that the town turned a blind eye. One claim included a recorded conversation by a young volunteer from the "Vote No" campaign erroneously identifying herself as a member of the Board of Elections.
That phone call is one example of alleged fraud by opposing community groups that prompted a judge to intervene and keep the ballots uncounted.
"We think there was massive election fraud," says Robert Rhodes, of Preserve Ramapo. "We think the election fraud was facilitated by the town clerk."
The town disagrees and filed paperwork in court Monday to have voting machines and ballots released.
