Alleged drunken driver hit with homicide charge
The alleged drunken driver that killed the 8-year-old daughter of a Sept. 11 victim has been hit with a charge of criminally negligent homicide in her death.
According to investigators, Francis Circosta crashed into a car carrying 8-year-old Bryanna Holland and her mother, Cassandra Brown, while he was drunk in January. Toxicology reports indicate Circosta?s BAC was nearly three times the legal limit at the time of the accident.
Police say Circosta was driving home from a bar and had a beer in the car with him at the time. The fatal crash didn?t mark the first time the man allegedly got behind the wheel after too many. Circosta had been hit with a previous DWI charge 10 years ago.
After the crash, Brown was hospitalized with minor injuries, but her daughter died. Friends say the daughter and mother had become inseparable after Holland?s father died in the Sept. 11 terror attacks.
Circosta was also hospitalized after the accident. Police said back in January he would likely face charges if he made a recovery.
The case will now be sent to a grand jury next, and Circosta could face additional charges. He is due back in New Windsor Town Court March 3.
Tragedy strikes again for 9/11 victim's family
