WHITE PLAINS - Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino is renewing his challenge to find housing for homeless veterans.

At a news conference in White Plains on Thursday, Astorino announced that Westchester will spend the next 100 days helping find shelter for 75 veterans and jobs for 45 of them. The effort is called the Patriot Housing Initiative.

"Anyone who puts on the uniform to serve our country deserves better than they've been receiving at times," Astorino said.

As part of a national effort called 100,000 Homes, Westchester County had already set a goal of helping 75 vets find shelter in 100 days. The county ended up exceeding its goal and helped 85 veterans.
