Athletes compete in Hudson Valley Special Olympics at West Point
WEST POINT - Nearly a thousand athletes from across the region went for the win today at the annual Hudson Valley Special Olympics at West Point.
Special Olympics official Neal Johnson says the goal of the competition is to use sports to show what we all have in common.
"People with intellectual disabilities really aren't that different from the rest of us," said Johnson. "We're all pretty much the same, we all have challenges, we all have the desire to overcome those challenges."
The athletes ranged from ages 8 to 76. The best of them will go up against thousands of others in the state Summer Games in early June.
