Author of 'Vagina Monologues' defends John Jay H.S. students on national TV
Three students from John Jay High School in Cross River who got in hot water for saying the word ?vagina? got national attention Friday.
Juniors Megan Reback, Elan Stahl and Hannah Levinson were threatened with suspensions for reading a verse of the ?Vagina Monologues? at an open mic night at the school after administrators told them not to. The students appeared on NBC?s ?Today Show? with School Board President Peter Breslin and Scarsdale native Eve Ensler, who authored the work. Ensler applauded the bold step by the students.
On the ?Today Show,? the students mentioned that another student said the F-word during the same event at the school, but apparently didn't face any disciplinary action. School officials say they are dealing with that issue separately. School administrators say they are reconsidering the students? suspension.
