The Dutchess County Sheriff's Office says a man is dead after a car wreck involving a stolen car driven by a 14-year-old.
Deputies say they were called to a crash Tuesday around 6:30 a.m. on Route 9 in Rhinebeck.
Police say 49-year-old Jonathan Kiech from New Jersey was driving north on Route 9 when he was hit head-on by a 14-year-old driving a Toyota 4Runner stolen from Connecticut. Kiech was pronounced dead at the scene.
The teen was first taken to the hospital then to jail.
Investigators say the 4Runner in the crash is one of several reported stolen from Northern Dutchess County and eastern Connecticut late last night and early Tuesday morning.
The Sheriff's Office says it may be the work of an organized group, which has done this before out of Connecticut.
Officials urge residents to lock their cars and to never leave valuables or the key inside, and never leave the car running.
