Authorities have shut down a Yonkers pet store for keeping animals in deplorable conditions.

It's not the first time that Pet World's license has been revoked.

People who work nearby the South Broadway store say there were no indications that over 100 animals were stashed below the pet shop.

Yonkers police found the animals Friday as they responded to a security alarm next door.

The SPCA of Westchester was called to examine ducks, pigeons, chickens and rabbits living in crowded cages covered in feces.

Ernest Lungaro, with the SPCA of Westchester's Humane Law Enforcement, says there are no signs that the roosters were used for illegal activity.

The owner has been ordered to appear in court on a summons and is no longer allowed to operate in Westchester County.

"We've known about this pet store for a while," says Lungaro.

Two years ago, Pet World's license to sell cats and dogs was revoked.

It's unclear how long animals were kept in the basement.

The animals are now living at a local farm.
