New Rochelle native and Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice spoke publicly Friday for the first time about the assault charge filed against him.
Rice was charged with third-degree aggravated assault in February after video surfaced of him dragging his unconscious then fiancee Janay Palmer out of an Atlantic City elevator.
Palmer, who is now married to Rice, sat by his side as he apologized to fans for the February incident.
Rice says he now strives every day to be a better husband, father and role model. The couple did not take any questions from the media.
Rice was accepted into a pretrial diversion program earlier this week, which upon completion will allow the aggravated assault charge against him to be dropped.
