Bear wanders around Nanuet neighborhood
A black bear sat in a tree for more than two hours this week in Nanuet before it was tranquilized.
Clarkstown police chased the bear up the tree after the department received calls from residents spotting the bear wandering through neighborhood yards Tuesday morning.
Police kept an eye on the bear until the Department of Environmental Protection arrived on the scene and shot the bear with a tranquilizer. Department cops then weighed and measured the animal while nearby residents crowded the backyard where the bear was held.
The bear is expected to be fine, and police say it was released into a wooded area by Stewart Airport.
