Beloved Mount Vernon coach mourned at ceremony
A wake was held Sunday for a beloved coach who mourners say touched the lives of many on and off the field.
Donny Dendy, 45, died after he collapsed Wednesday while attending a friend?s funeral.
Dendy coached track and field at Longfellow Middle School full time as well as for Mount Vernon High School, Boys and Girls Club and the Empire State Games. Friends and family say he influenced the lives of countless people as a coach, mentor and friend.
Dendy leaves behind a wife, 3-year-old daughter and 13-year-old son Jared.
Family members say the cause of death has not been determined yet.
