A Democrat has not represented Greenwich and New Canaan in the state Senate for 88 years, but that all changed with this week's elections.
Alex Bergstein scored a major upset this week when she toppled Republican Scott Frantz, a 10-year veteran of the state Senate.
"You just heard people downstairs who are lifelong Republicans who voted for me, and I think it's because I presented an agenda that was not partisan," says Bergstein.
Like some other Democrats, Bergstein supports highway tolls and a $15 minimum wage. But she is a strict conservative on taxes. Bergstein plans to target the estate and gift tax, corporate taxes and even the state income tax.
"I'm going to Hartford to represent this community and represent the best interest of this state, not a political party," Bergstein says.
Bergstein told News 12 she is not afraid of taking on her own party.
"We are not defined by our labels -- our party labels or any other labels," Bergstein says.
