TARRYTOWN - As construction on the new Tappan Zee Bridge ramps up this summer, new regulations and safety measures will be put into effect on the Hudson River.

Boaters were reminded of the new restrictions at the Westchester Boat Show in Ossining on Sunday. The new restrictions include slower wake zones and heightened policing.

Officials also expect the Coast Guard to block off boating in areas where construction barges are high in number. There are currently about 50 construction vessels in the river. That could rise to more than 100 by the summer

Some marina owners are wary that the regulations will slow down boating activity.

If the no boating zone is approved, officials say boaters can expect markers to go up right away. Officials say the best case scenario is to avoid the project site.
