Body of hit-and-run victim Eric Geter, 32, found in the Quassaick Creek

NEW WINDSOR - Police say a Newburgh father found in an Orange County creek was the victim of a hit-and-run.

The body of Eric Geter, 32, was discovered by divers Thursday afternoon in the Quassaick Creek along Walsh Road in New Windsor.

Investigators say Geter was struck and killed by a car around 6 a.m. while he was walking to work at the American Felt and Filter Company, where he was a machine operator.

When Geter didn't show up for work, the company called his family and coworkers walked along his usual route looking for him where they found some of his belongings and knew something was wrong.

So far, there have been no arrests. Detectives are reviewing video cameras in the area and want to speak with anyone who may know anything about what happened.
