Bomb scare evacuates Wesley Hills neighborhood
A quiet street in the Village of Wesley Hills became the focus of a bomb scare that forced neighbors to evacuate Sunday. Officials said members of a company brought in to clean a home on Van Winkle Road found what appeared to be several sticks of dynamite with a timer attached.A member of the Rockland County Sheriff Department Bomb Squad disabled the device, which turned out to be harmless. Police also found a number of toy plastic cannonballs designed to be ignited by fuses. The house, which is up for sale, had recently been rented. Robert Steinberger, who lives across the street, said a man who lived in the home several years ago had been a weapons collector. Officials said it wasn?t clear if the devices were left by that person. Neighbors were allowed to return home after three hours. Ramapo police are continuing to investigate the incident.
