Millie Peartree Fishfry & Soul Food is bringing a taste of the south to the Bronx.
Hailing from Savannah, Georgia, chef Millie Peartree says the Bronx needs soulfood now more than ever.
"The Bronx needs this," Peartree says.
She says she learned how to cook from her mom who was always in the kitchen and the food Peartree serves at her restaurant are the same meals she grew up eating.
"Our catfish is battered with a blend of cornmeal flower and spices which we deep fry to golden perfection,” Peartree says.
From macaroni and cheese made from scratch, to fried catfish strips, it's a labor of love she says.
"Anyone can make a recipe but if there's not time, effort, and love put into it it's just not as good," she says.
