Boy?s death on ride at Rye Playland caused by blunt force trauma
Westchester officials say the death of a 7-year-old boy on a ride at Rye Playland was caused by blunt force trauma.
Authorities say the boy from Connecticut met the height requirements for Ye Old Mill, which was why he was allowed to go on the ride alone. His mother called for help when he did not come out of the boat-in-the-dark amusement ride. Police searched for an hour before finding the boy?s body in shallow water underneath a conveyer belt used to move the ride along.
Police officials say no apparent mechanical failure was found on the ride. Investigators believe the boy was not seated on the ride at the time of the incident. Ye Old Mill is one of seven rides that have been in the park since it opened in 1929 and was refurbished in 2002. It is the third death in the park?s 76-year history.
