Some Bridgeport seniors who were stranded in their apartments due to a broken elevator are breathing a sigh of relief Saturday.
The landlord for the Seville Apartments on 1148 William St. says he was finally able to get an elevator back in operation after a lightning strike knocked out power and left it broken three weeks ago.
Disabled seniors within the building called on News 12 to say that they were unable to get to appointments or even buy food without the elevator.
The situation was brought to the attention of Sen. Richard Blumenthal, who said apartments that accept Section 8 vouchers are accountable to federal authorities to fix any problems that hinder access to people with disabilities.
Gail Grossman, who is disabled, says she is grateful the elevator is finally working again because the three weeks she spent without it were a nightmare.
"I felt like I was just stuck right here and I couldn't go anywhere…you feel like a caged animal when that happens,” she said. "I'd like to thank News 12 Connecticut for all the work they did."
