Workers at 500 Bronx apartment buildings announced a deal Thursday with property owners after briefly going on strike.

SEIU Local 32BJ members walked off the job at 7 a.m. after they were offered paid health care and more pension benefits, but not an increase in pay. The union represents nearly 4,000 building superintendents, porters, maintenance workers and doormen in the borough.

Union bosses eventually hammered out a three-year deal with the Bronx Realty Advisory Board. The contract includes a 50-cent-per-hour raise, a $50 monthly pension increase, employer-paid health care and improved training programs.

While members originally argued that their Manhattan counterparts in the same union earn double their average $10 wage, union officials said they do not anticipate a problem in members passing the deal in a vote.

The three-year contract would be retroactive to March 15, the day after the first contract expired.
