Bronx locals gathered to run a 5-mile race organized by the NYPD?s 49th Precinct to commemorate the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.
The 5th annual run was held at Pelham Parkway and Eastchester Road. Runners said the event promotes positive interaction between the Bronx community and its police officers.
Bronx residents of all ages participated. Children started off the races and then the adults took over. Many participants ran for personal reasons; for friends or loved ones who died in the attack.
Officers from the precinct said proceeds from the race go to NYPD widow and orphan funds.
