Bronx teenagers experienced firsthand what it is like to be in need Saturday by starving themselves for 30 hours to raise awareness of world hunger.
The teenagers from all over the borough will only drink liquids for 30 hours. While starving themselves, the kids participate in community service. The teens packed free groceries for low-income families in need.
The initiative is from World Vision, a group that aims to raise hunger awareness. Participants say the plan works by making them feel how those in poverty feel.
According to the teens, volunteering to help their community brings hope that one day there will be no hungry mouths to feed.
