When people order from select eateries, Deliver Zero offers reusable packaging to promote zero waste.
"We thought why don't we solve this problem the way we solve it already in our own homes, which is you wash the dishes when you're done and you reuse those dishes," said Adam Farbiaz, with Deliver Zero. "The only twist is and it's a big twist: The food shows up in this reusable packaging."
The owners of Sky Ice Thai Food and Ice Cream say they were always looking for ways to minimize their use of plastic and when Deliver Zero walked through the door at their 9th Street location, there was immediate interest.
"My wife and I have been environmentally conscious since we opened. we've gone through a series of different type of containers to try and use to deliver our food, and at the end of the day we had to just rely on plastic because it solved our problem. Until Adam walked through our doors," said Jonathan Bayer, with Sky Ice Thai Food and Ice Cream.
Customers either return the containers back to the restaurant, or any of the delivery people offered by the service can return it. If you don't, you have to pay.
The service is only offered in Brooklyn at the moment, with more restaurants being added each day. The company is looking forward to expanding in the next few years.
