Budget proposal by Rockland Legislature to lower property taxes
The Rockland County Legislature signed off on a financial plan for 2006, which will lower property taxes for residents.
The legislature approved $608 million of the proposed $610 million of the county budget. The $2 million cut was made in order to ensure the 1.1 percent property tax decrease, which relies on projected sales tax revenue. The cut comes from the county's retirement fund instead of the original plan to take it from county departments.
The county executive has five days to veto any of the legislature?s decisions. It then goes back to the legislature for final approval by the end of the year.
