Bus crashes into deli on Saw Mill River Road in Yonkers

YONKERS - Treacherous road conditions are suspected of causing a bus to slide and crash into the Saw Mill Deli in Yonkers this morning.

Police say the bus was heading down Lockwood Avenue just before 8 a.m. and lost traction while trying to make the left turn onto Saw Mill River Road.

There were two customers in the deli, along with Jael Flores, whose father owns the deli. "One of the ladies was sitting on the stool on the window. When she saw the bus coming, the bus just kept honking the horn. So she grabbed the other customer and they put themselves to the side of the refrigerators. So the bus just passed through here. They moved just in time," says Flores.

The bus had four passengers on board plus the driver. Four of the people on the bus were taken to local hospitals to be checked out.

Saw Mill River Road, also known as Route 9A, was closed in both directions while crews cleared the accident.
