Bus driver's slaying shocks Spring Valley
Family and friends are mourning the death of a Spring Valley man who was stabbed to death over a transfer on his Brooklyn bus route Monday.
Police say the victim, 46-year-old Edwin Thomas, let the suspect on his B46 bus Monday despite the fact the man did not pay the fare. When Thomas refused to give the man a free transfer, the passenger allegedly took out a knife and stabbed him.
"The doctor told us he was stabbed in the heart and he was stabbed in the stomach," says the driver?s 18-year-old son, Jeffrey Thomas, of Spring Valley. "Once I heard that, I collapsed, I couldn't believe it."
Thomas has been a bus driver for the past seven years, ever since he quit his job driving an armored truck because of safety concerns.
The father of two had been living in Brooklyn, but his son says that didn't keep him from being his best friend.
"I didn't get to see him, I didn't get to say goodbye," Thomas? son says. "He's just gone."
