Doughnut shops across the city are giving away free doughnuts in honor of National Doughnut Day Friday.
The celebration is always held on the first Friday in June.
Most doughnut retailers promote the day as a way to raise funds for charitable organizations.
National Doughnut Day History
Salvation Army
The first National Doughnut Day was held 80 years ago back in 1938.
It was established by the Chicago Salvation Army to raise funds during the great depression.
Many doughnut shops around the city, including Dunkin' Donuts are offering free doughnuts and deals throughout the day.
