Calf slaughter at Ramapo yeshiva causes stir
News 12 Hudson Valley has obtained video that apparently shows a calf being slaughtered behind a Ramapo yeshiva.
According to police documents, a Monsey man who was learning to be a kosher butcher was practicing on the calf and apparently got the OK to use the school grounds from the yeshiva's board of directors.
Local residents say the images are sickening.
"It was very disturbing to see, especially more so on the ground and seeing everyone over it," says a person who lives near the yeshiva.
Ramapo town attorney Michael Klein says the property owner violated the town zoning law and could face a fine of up to $5,000.
"This type of conduct is clearly prohibited and nothing" similar should happen again, Klein says.
No criminal or animal cruelty charges have been filed and county health inspectors say there were no public health violations.
