The CDC reported that Friday had the lowest daily vaccination average since January.
It has now been eight months since the vaccine was first rolled out and still half the country is not fully vaccinated.
Doctors say a high transmission rate in unvaccinated populations will lead to more breakthrough cases.
In response to the recent uptick in cases, several cities around the country, such as Los Angeles and St. Louis, are bringing back their mask mandates.
Vanderbilt University Medical Center's Dr. William Schaffner explained, " There's spillover into vaccinated people. We could all bring this to a close if everyone who were unvaccinated would just come in, get vaccinated tomorrow. Within two weeks to a month, COVID would go way down."
