People across the Hudson Valley are celebrating Hanukkah.

Main Street in Irvington transformed for a menorah lighting ceremony to mark the beginning of the Festival of Lights on Sunday.

There was a horse drawn carriage, a holiday-themed train for young children, and lots of fun activities for families.

Organizers say it's a good way to spread the message of Hanukkah. "We need to focus on the positive and do more good. Bring up more light into the world which really is the message of the Hanukkah menorah. You take a light, you light the candle and it expels the darkness," says Rabbi Benjy Silverman, Chabad of the Rivertowns.

The Festival of Lights, which is observed for eight nights and days, ends on Dec. 10.
