A local charity brought holiday spirit to those who need it most as 169 kids at the Elizabeth Seton Pediatric Center in Yonkers received toys and games today.
Toys for Hospitalized Children is delivering 30,000 toys to kids in hospitals this month.
The rabbi who runs the program says it's a cause that means so much to him personally. “When I was 4 years old, I burned my entire right arm and I spent three and half weeks in the hospital. I actually spent my fifth birthday in the hospital. I remember that very vividly. Getting a toy relaxes them, and helps them through that experience,” says Executive Director Rabbi JJ Hecht.
Hecht says that many kids at the center are considered the most medically complex patients and are often hospitalized for years on end.
