A car exploded into flames after hitting a tree and utility pole in Wallkill.

WALLKILL - A Wallkill man was killed in a fiery car crash early Thursday morning.

Police say Charles Gonzalez, 46, crashed his SUV into a tree on Pocatello Road just before 2 a.m. His car then burst into flames. Neighbors tried to break the windows open and rescue Gonzalez, but were unsuccessful.

Gonzalez, who lived down the road from where the accident happened, worked at Emblem Health.

Orange & Rockland crews have made repairs to restore power lost due to the crash.
