Closing of Stony Point eatery marks end of an era
A popular family owned restaurant in Stony Point is permanently closing its doors Wednesday, marking the end of an era.
Annie's Snack Shop, which started as a hot dog stand, has been open on Route 9W since 1952. Annie Ciabattoni, 76, started working at the stand with her father at the age of 16. She's run the business by herself for the past 25 years.
"[I] want to thank all my customers ? everyone of them. I love them dearly for supporting me," Ciabattoni said.
The restaurant, a Rockland County historic landmark since 2000, is slated to become a bank and CVS store. Ciabattoni said she couldn't bear the pain of telling her customers.
"I tell them it's not true, it's not true. But I lied to them because I couldn't come out and tell them the truth. I'm sorry for that."
Ciabattoni said it's been a good run and she likes to think she's leaving on a high note after serving up good home cooking with a smile for all these years.
