One of the young victims of the Florida school shooting has ties to Long Island.
Jaime Guttenberg, 14, was a ninth-grader at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. Her father, Fred Guttenberg, grew up in East Northport and graduated from Commack High School.
Shortly after the shooting, Fred Guttenberg posted a plea on Facebook asking for information about his daughter's whereabouts. Hours later, he learned she was one of the 17 people killed.
Her uncle, Paul Guttenberg of Commack, says the family is devastated.
"She was the sweetest little girl and, you know what kills me? She will never see her 16th birthday. She will never graduate from high school. She will never go to college because this crazy person had to take her, as well as many other people's lives," said Guttenberg.
Jaime's 17-year-old brother, Jesse, was also at the school at the time of the shooting, but he escaped.
Her funeral is scheduled for Sunday.
