NYACK - Critics of the controversial Common Core educational curriculum showed up to protest at TV stations across New York state today, including News 12 Westchester.

“We are really worried about what's happening and we would really like the governor to come out and protect what parents want him to protect,” said education activist Lisa Rudley.

The Common Core education initiative has been implemented in 45 states, including New York. It has introduced more rigorous standards in English and math for students K-12. Protesters say it stifles how individual students learn.

Teacher David Greene said he hopes that by applying pressure, Common Core will be changed for the better.
