A coalition of villages along Route 9 is looking for ways to improve the safety of thousands of drivers.
Authorities say 25,000 vehicles a day use Route 9 from the Village of Hastings to Sleepy Hollow.
In the past five years, 750 crashes were recorded on that route including one fatality.
The coalition of villages is now seeking input from residents in hopes of making it safer for everyone.
Andrew Ratzkin, chair of the Route 9 Steering Committee, says the coalition was awarded a $150,000 grant to study the corridor.
He says the goal is to make a "complete streets" plan, which could mean adding crosswalks or prioritizing public transportation.
The transportation study will likely take a year to complete. If the villages involved agree on a plan, the next phase would be to design and fund changes to Route 9.
