A community activist in Yonkers is announcing his plans to run for the 6th District city council seat.

Anthony Merante has lived in Yonkers for 30 years and says he wants to improve the quality of life in the community, help local schools and balance the budget.

"Keeping the taxes down is a very big thing and I believe that I can continue to work on the quality of life issues," he says.

The seat is currently being held by Republican John Larkin.
