A community is coming together to help a Westchester girl who is battling a rare disorder.

Lake Street in West Harrison was all lit up green Tuesday night to raise awareness for mitochondrial disease and to support a 7-year-old girl who is currently battling it.

Lexi Corvino was diagnosed two years ago and learned that her mitochondria can't produce enough energy to sustain all of her organs.

There's still no cure, so Lexi is currently on a treatment to slow the progression of the disease. Her parents say they notice that Lexi's everyday life is more manageable. She can run and play with her brother, but she is still frequently hospitalized when things get bad.

Her parents have started Lexi's Might to Fight, an organization to raise money for research on the disease.

That's why the community is rallying around Lexi and her family.  Neighbors are spreading the word with lights.

The pandemic has affected the Corvino family's ability to hold fundraising events right now, but they say that they are hoping the lights are enough to raise awareness.
