The suspect accused of murdering a Suffern elementary school teacher last year is scheduled to begin a competency hearing this week. Monday marked the one-year anniversary of the murder of Jami Erlich.

Competency hearing set for man accused of killing neighbor
The suspect accused of murdering a Suffern elementary school teacher last year is scheduled to begin a competency hearing this week.
Monday marked the one-year anniversary of the murder of Jami Erlich. Erlich was found dead inside her home at the Lake Road Condominiums in Valley Cottage.
Erlich's neighbor, Eric Lau, is accused of beating Erlich and cutting her throat.
His lawyers say he is not fit to stand trial, but the district attorney?s office strongly disagrees.
