Construction crews broke ground Thursday on an interim track to serve runners near the new Yankee Stadium site.
Many in the community say the track comes a little too late, considering they were promised a replacement track in August. The old track was torn up when work started at the stadium site. Officials say the delay was due to a change to accommodate the Little League season. Runners are currently using the sidewalk.
The temporary 350-yard rubber track will be completed in spring 2007. A permanent 400-yard track is expected to open in 2010.
