An NYPD officer and karate instructor from Middletown pleaded not guilty at his arraignment Wednesday in a sexual abuse case.
Trent Young is accused of sexually abusing two of his female karate students and taking them across state lines, making it a federal case. The assaults allegedly took place at Young's Middletown home where he taught karate and at his karate studio in New Jersey in 2005.
Young's attorney claims there is more to the story regarding the teenage girls who have accused his client.
However, the U.S. attorney prosecuting the case told the judge she has physical evidence and statements from Young himself to corroborate the girls? stories.
Young is accused of using intimidation to rape one of the teen karate students on several occasions. According to police, Young used an oath of obedience to sexually abuse the girl. Investigators say the girl believed sex was part of that oath to earn her green belt.
Young is suspended without pay from the NYPD and remains in jail without bail. He is scheduled to appear at the federal courthouse in White Plains next week for a pretrial conference.
