The confirmation earlier this week that Laura Garza's remains were found in a remote part of Pennsylvania has shifted attention again to a convicted Orange County sex offender who was last seen with the Brooklyn woman.

Michael Mele was arrested for a parole violation shortly after Garza went missing in December 2008 and has been in state prison since then. Authorities say they left Manhattan's Marquee nightclub together in Mele's silver Infiniti SUV.

Mele was labeled "a person of interest" in Garza's disappearance, but has never been charged.
