Cops: Suicidal teen rescued off Newburgh-Beacon Bridge
Police negotiators talked a suicidal man off the Newburgh-Beacon Bridge as he hung onto a beam 200 feet above the Hudson River last week.
Police say they received a call Friday that someone was hanging over the rail of the Newburgh-Beacon Bridge.
State police negotiators spent four hours talking to 19-year-old Juan Decontreras, of Ulster County, who was reportedly upset over family problems.
Decontreras finally agreed to climb into a bucket truck, but once inside he tried to jump out again, police say. Officers were eventually able to control him and get him to safety.
The 19-year-old was taken to Arden Hill Hospital, where he was committed to a mental health unit.
