Cops: Yonkers drug kingpin Juan Valdez arrested

YONKERS - Police have arrested a Yonkers man suspected of leading a sophisticated drug ring that spanned from Puerto Rico to New York City.

After months of investigation, which included wiretapping, Juan Valdez was arrested last week at a family member's Bronx home that also houses a day care center.

Authorities say he used the center and his apartment at 377 North Broadway in Yonkers as a stash house for the drug operation.

Police say the dealers tried to hide their operations by allegedly sending packages of cocaine wrapped in SpongeBob SquarePants bedding through the U.S. Postal Service.

Investigators say they also found cocaine in lunchboxes at another day care center Valdez allegedly used to run his business.

Police say Valdez shipped up to 10 kilograms worth $60,000 each month to the New York City area, including Yonkers.

Valdez’s charges include conspiracy and money laundering.
