Westchester County Executive George Latimer honored relatives of active-duty members who died in combat.
Westchester County officials take a day each year to recognize the ultimate sacrifices these soldiers made for their country.
Gold Star mother Hope Coaxum-Hollinsworth says, "We recognize that they each have a journey…A purpose to fulfill that has changed our lives, as mothers, forever.“
When speaking of the fallen soldiers, County Executive Latimer said, “That child has been taken from you, and is never coming back to you. And you have made a sacrifice, that short of the sacrifice of your own life, has to be the greatest sacrifice that a person can make.”
Gold Star Mother’s Day will be observed nationwide on Sept. 27.
