A 14-year-old boy in Chester was honored this week for performing lifesaving CPR on his friend, with the help of a 911 dispatcher.

Ty'Shawn James was playing basketball with his friend at Chester Elementary School last month when the boy went into cardiac arrest and collapsed.

The teen, who was honored by county officials on Wednesday, called 911 and performed CPR to help his friend until responders could arrive.

"During the moment, I may have seemed calm, but I was very scared because he could've potentially died there and that could've been his last moment so that's what I was thinking the whole time," says Ty'Shawn.

His friend is now recovering and is expected to be OK.

County officials commended James for his bravery and calmness during the medical emergency, saying the teen has a "bright future ahead of him."
